Before you come
Hair should be about half a centimetre — roughly two weeks of growth. Do not exfoliate or use retinol on the area for two days beforehand. Skip it if you are sunburnt.
Afterwards
Redness settles within a few hours. Avoid hot showers, swimming and the gym for a day. Start exfoliating gently after three days to keep hairs from growing in.
What the appointment is like
You will be shown to a private room and given time on your own to undress to whatever level the treatment needs. The door stays closed. Nobody walks in mid-treatment, and nothing is discussed in the main salon afterwards.
We use a warm, low-temperature wax applied in small sections, working with the direction of hair growth and removing against it. Small sections hurt less than large ones and lift less skin. Between sections we check in with you rather than working straight through.
Afterwards we apply a calming lotion and give you the room back to dress at your own pace.
Does it hurt
The first time is the worst time, and it is genuinely more manageable than most people expect. Pain drops noticeably by the second or third appointment because the hair grows back finer and the follicles loosen. If you are sensitive, avoid caffeine beforehand and book for the middle of your cycle rather than the days just before a period, when skin is most reactive.
Tell us at any point if you want a pause. There is no prize for pushing through.
Waxing versus shaving
Waxing removes hair from the follicle, so regrowth takes two to four weeks rather than one to two days. It grows back softer and with a tapered tip instead of the blunt edge a razor leaves, which is why it feels less stubbly. Over time, repeated waxing thins regrowth in most people.
The trade-off is that you need some length to wax — about half a centimetre — so you cannot maintain it daily the way you can with a razor.
How often to come back
Three to four weeks is the usual rhythm for underarm and legs, four to six for arms and back. Coming back on a schedule works better than waiting until regrowth is heavy: the hair cycle synchronises and each appointment gets faster and more comfortable.
When not to wax
Do not wax over sunburn, broken skin, cold sores, or areas treated with retinol, acid peels or laser in the previous week. If you are on isotretinoin, wait six months after finishing. If you are unsure, message us before booking and we will tell you honestly whether to wait.
