For expectant and new mothers

Pregnancy and post-natal treatments

A quiet room a few minutes from Từ Dũ Hospital, and treatments adapted so you can be comfortable for an hour.

Why people come to us for this

We are a few minutes' walk from Từ Dũ Hospital on the same street, and a large part of our week is people connected to it — mothers who have just finished an appointment, family members with hours to fill while they wait, and women in the early weeks after birth who have not sat down properly in a while.

None of this is medical care. It is a quiet room, a reclining chair and someone paying attention for an hour, which after a morning of waiting rooms is not a small thing.

What tends to work well

The herbal hair wash and scalp work. This is the treatment most expectant mothers ask for, and for good reason — you are seated and reclined rather than lying flat on your front, nothing presses on your abdomen, and the work is all above the shoulders. Our shorter rituals are thirty and sixty minutes, which is usually the right length.

Neck and shoulder work, seated. Carrying extra weight changes your posture, and most of the complaint lands in the upper back and shoulders. This can be done fully clothed and sitting up.

Foot treatments. Swollen feet and ankles are the near-universal late-pregnancy complaint. A warm soak and gentle foot work is often the thing people are most grateful for. We keep the pressure light.

Nails. Reaching your own toes stops being realistic somewhere around the seventh month. Our nail area is ventilated and we use low-odour products, which matters more than usual when your sense of smell has become unreliable.

What we adapt, and what we leave alone

Tell us you are pregnant and how many weeks when you book, and again when you arrive. It changes how we work rather than whether we can.

We keep you seated or reclined rather than face down. We keep water warm rather than hot. We use gentle pressure, particularly on the legs, feet and lower back. We avoid the strong-pressure work that a normal body treatment would include. If you feel uncomfortable, light-headed or simply want to change position at any point, say so — that is expected, not an interruption.

We are a salon, not a clinic, and we will not tell you what is safe for your body. If you have any complication, or you are unsure about anything, ask your doctor or midwife first. If they advise against a treatment, that answer is the one that counts, and we would rather you came another time.

After the birth

There is no rule about when to come, and it depends entirely on your delivery and your recovery. Many mothers come for the first time somewhere in the first two months, often for a head spa, often because it is the first hour they have had to themselves.

If you had a caesarean or any complication, check with your doctor before booking anything involving body work. Head, neck and foot treatments are usually the gentlest place to start.

You are welcome to bring a baby. We would rather you did than not come at all. Say so when you book so we can put you somewhere quieter with room for a pram.

Practical things

Bathroom is available whenever you need it and you do not have to ask. Come when you have eaten rather than on an empty stomach. If you are waiting on someone at Từ Dũ, tell us how long you have — we would rather fit the treatment to your time than have you watching the clock.

Our prices are published in VND and are the same as any other guest pays. There is no pregnancy surcharge and nobody will try to sell you a course of anything.

Questions we get asked

Is a head spa safe during pregnancy?

A seated herbal hair wash and scalp massage is gentle and is what most of our expectant guests book. But we are not able to tell you what is safe for your particular pregnancy — please ask your doctor or midwife, especially if there have been any complications.

Can I come in the first trimester?

Tell us your stage when you book and we will talk it through. Many people prefer to wait past the first trimester for any body treatment, and some doctors advise it. We will follow whatever your doctor has told you.

Do you have a proper prenatal massage therapist?

We adapt our treatments for comfort during pregnancy — seated or reclined positions, gentle pressure, nothing on the abdomen. We do not hold a specialist prenatal massage qualification, and we would rather tell you that plainly than imply otherwise. If you want clinical prenatal massage, a specialist provider is the right choice.

Are the products safe?

We use low-odour nail products in a ventilated area, and our herbal preparations are the same ones used in every treatment. If you have a specific sensitivity or something your doctor has told you to avoid, tell us and we will work around it or leave that part out.

How far is it from Từ Dũ Hospital?

A few minutes on foot — we are on Lương Hữu Khánh, the same street. Directions are here.
