What a head spa actually costs in Saigon

Prices for gội đầu dưỡng sinh in this city run from about 59.000₫ to over 900.000₫ for what looks like the same thing. Here is what the difference buys.

The range, honestly

You will see head spa advertised in Ho Chi Minh City anywhere between roughly 59.000₫ and 900.000₫. Both ends of that range are real treatments. They are not the same treatment.

Broadly, the market sorts itself into three bands:

Around 59.000₫ – 150.000₫. Usually thirty minutes or less, often a neighbourhood salon, frequently a shared room. The wash is real and the massage is real. Herbal preparations are typically from a bulk supply, and the scalp work is quick.
Around 150.000₫ – 400.000₫. Forty-five to seventy-five minutes. This is where neck and shoulder work usually appears, along with a facial cleanse or mask, a proper reclining basin, and a blow-dry at the end. Most people's sweet spot.
Around 400.000₫ – 950.000₫. Ninety minutes to two hours. Herbal foot soak, body therapy, facial treatment, and the scalp work extended well past the point where you stop tracking time.

What actually drives the price

Time on your scalp. This is the big one, and it is the number nobody advertises. A sixty-minute appointment might contain forty minutes of scalp work or fifteen. Ask.

Whether the room is yours. A shared row of basins costs less to run than a private or semi-private room, and it feels completely different at the end of a bad week.

What goes in the water. Fresh herbal preparations cost more than a bulk bottle of scented base. You can usually smell the difference immediately.

What is bundled in. Neck and shoulder work, facial cleanse, mask, foot soak, blow-dry. Two places quoting 299.000₫ can be offering quite different afternoons.

Staffing. A technician who has done this for years works differently from one trained last month, and salons pay accordingly.

What the cheap ones usually leave out

Cheap is not a warning sign in Vietnam — plenty of excellent neighbourhood places charge very little. But at the bottom of the range the things most often missing are the blow-dry, the neck and shoulder work, and time. You may also find the herbal element is fragrance rather than herbs.

The genuine red flags are different, and they are worth more attention than price: tools that are not visibly sterilised, a price that changes after the treatment, and pressure to upgrade once you are already in the chair.

Tipping and extras

Tipping is not expected in Vietnam and should never be added to your bill without asking. If a quoted price grows on the way to the counter, that is a problem with the salon, not a custom you have failed to understand.
